When you hear the interview you can really identify some of the core problems here. Something that needs to be watched out for.
Saying that being male or female is “who you are” “how you feel inside” is essentialism, it’s regressive, and it’s sexist. It has to stop. It alienates people like Milo. This idea came from the toxic internet and from these “professionals” who want you under the knife to conform. It intensified the feelings of disconnect from her body, and when she says “I can’t see myself living my life as a female” she’s picturing a pink frilly lifestyle, sexualised by men, the one that caused her pain. Those ‘professionals’ etc agreeing that Milo isn’t being a normal girl, she’s “sick”. Terminally sick. and needs fixing. Or else death. This is insane. The bullying should have been taken into account too, not the haircut shirt and dinosaurs. There needs to be more statement that your body parts and appearance don’t define you, that transition is a very serious permanent reworking of your body that is simply not the solution for everyone. Thankfully we have seen more of this from the nonbinary part of the trans community, albeit still poisoned by homophobia and essentialism.
I wish Milo the best and brightest future of healing, and to not become a target for bigotry by gender proponents on either side of the political aisle.
